The Story Of The African Impala And The Need For Vision And Faith

faith and the african impala

I heard that an African impala can jump 10 feet high and cover a distance of more than 30 feet.

But do you want to know what’s strange?

These amazing animals can be kept in an enclosure in any zoo with just a 3-foot wall.

Yes, you read that right. A 3-foot wall.

No your math isn’t off.

They can jump 10 feet up, but a 3-foot wall can stop them.

You want to know why?

It’s simple, but revealing.

These animals won’t jump if they can’t see where their feet will land.

That means that Impalas stay trapped because they refuse to go where they can’t see!

So many times in life we’re the same way!

Your Two Solutions

You have two solutions to this problem:

1. Make sure to have a vision of what you want to be and do.

Flesh it out. Think about what it will feel like and look like. This will help you to see even when the barriers of life get in the way.

2. Be willing to take a leap of faith.

You can either live your life by making choices in life based on what you see and what is or live your life based on what you don’t see and what could be.

I would say living your life based on what you don’t see and what could be is that better option!

It’s Not As Strange As It Sounds

At first, all this “live beyond our sight” stuff can sound strange to hearbut it’s really not so weird.  I mean, really, think about this…

The greatest things that have been accomplished in history have been achieved by people that lived their life seeing beyond their sight.

I don’t know if many of you know it, but Walt Disney never lived to see EPCOT completed.

A reporter once asked him when his health was beginning to fail him, “Does it make you sad to think you might never see EPCOT?”

Disney laughed, “If I didn’t see it you never would!”

Walt Disney had a clear idea of what he wanted.

That’s the only way it could be built.

He saw what wasn’t there yet!

Without Faith And Vision You’re Trapped

What I want you to understand today is that without vision and faith the barriers of life will hold you back and keep you caged like the African Impala.

Let me leave you with these words of encouragement from Walt Disney

He said, “If you can dream it, you can do it. Always remember that this whole thing was started with a dream and a mouse.”
