Half Moon Bay Back From The Brink
“HALF MOON BAY — Some visitors to Mike Shimeld’s upscale furniture store on Main Street are taken aback by the attractiveness of its surroundings.”
“They’ve read the grim accounts of Half Moon Bay’s finances, heard the talk that the town might disincorporate, and they half-expect to find a ghost town. Where is the blight, they wonder? Where are the boarded-up storefronts?”
“People are actually surprised how nice it is to stroll around downtown,” said Shimeld, co-owner of Cottage Industries Handcrafted Furniture. “There’s no tumbleweed in Half Moon Bay. This is still a nice, cute little town. It hasn’t changed.”
