Expert Feature: Facebook Apps – Will They Stay or Hide in the New Pages Layout?

In the rumor mill about Facebook’s upcoming redesign, word has it that the apps section (see Figure 1) at the top of the timeline will be eliminated.

Of course, we panicked because we use apps for special giveaways designed to capture names for mailing lists and leads.

Many sites use apps to create a great place to capture newsletter subscriptions without forcing people to leave Facebook. Apps are also used to display content from other social networks, such as Twitter and Pinterest. Contests and giveaways are a common use.

Mari Smith often recommends the use of theFan of the Weekapp to spotlight the week’s fan with the most engagement.

Well, after some research, we have good news. . . the App is not dead. It’s simply buried a little.

Where the tabs are currently displayed, underneath the cover photo, there will be a “More” button that lists any available apps. The Facebook for Business page features the next update to the timeline, so you can see it live for yourself. (See Figure 2.)

We’re a little confused, however. Allfacebook reported in their post Apps Module Added To New Layout For Facebook Pages On Desktop that Apps would be a module on the left side of the timeline. See the picture in their post for a view. Unfortunately, that module has now been removed. See the figure 2 above.

Are you messing with us, Facebook?

We understand your need to generate revenue. We’re all business owners, after all.

However, these changes directly affect a company’s ability to generate revenue, as in the case of restaurants that take orders via an app or online shops.

We certainly hope to see the ability to add blocks on the left side of the new profile. And one of the options must be Apps!
