Presidents’ Day also known as Washington’s Birthday is a United States national holiday that’s celebrated on the third Monday of February.

It’s purpose is to honor George Washington, the first President of the United States.

Washington’s Birthday is commonly referred to as Presidents’ Day, which is sometimes spelled President’s Day

Presidents’ Day as we know it was started by President Nixon.

He instituted it to honor all past presidents of the United States and it was set on the day when Washington’s Birthday was celebrated.

In the U.S. most people think of it as mainly a holiday celebrating Abraham Lincoln and George Washington because both of their birthdays are in February.
