Expert Feature: What A Shocking Prison Escape Can Teach You About Goals In 2014
How to Escape Your Prison and Achieve Your Goals for 2014
I came across a story of a very shocking prison escape.
75 prisoners at Saltillo Prison in Northern Mexico came up with an ingenuous idea.
They decided to dig a tunnel and escape from prison.
It was a pretty daring idea, but they believed it could work.
They then spent the next several weeks carefully planning their escape.
In November 1975 they started to dig a secret tunnel that they planned would take them under the prison wall and up onto the other side of the wall and to freedom.
They then spent the next five months digging.
On 18 April 1976, they finally broke through to the surface.
But this is the shocking part: their tunnel came up in a courtroom – the same courtroom that many of the prisoners came through on their way to prison.
The surprised judges sent all seventy-five of them back to prison.
Oliver Wendell Holmes once said something that we and these prisoners should have considered. He said, “The greatest thing in this world is not so much where we are, but in what direction we are moving.”
What direction are you moving in 2014?
Is it the way you had hoped or planned to be headed?
Or is it the result of getting caught up by the waves of life and not rowing or steering for a while?
Jim Rohn once said, “It is the set of the sails, not the direction of the wind that determines which way we will go.”
Which way are your sails set?
Today is the day to choose your direction.
Today is the day to chart your course and set your sails for 2014.
Choose wisely, because it is your most important choice of the year.
It’s the choice you need to make today and continue to make each day of this year as the waves and the winds try to push you off course.
