In my upcoming Intro to Marketing class for UC Berkeley Extensions (See BUS ADM X460.1 – 076), one of the things I’ll be emphasizing to my students is the importance of knowing WHO you are trying to target with your marketing.

That is true whether you are marketing offline or online. And it’s true no matter what type of online tool you are using, whether you are using social media to market or email to market.

Why is this important? Because WHO you market to influences HOW you will market to them!
