New LinkedIn Reactions: 4 New Ways to React to LinkedIn Posts

New Ways You Can React to LinkedIn Posts

On April 11, 2019, LinkedIn BEGAN rolling out some new ways to react to LinkedIn posts besides just “liking” them.

They are rolling out this feature gradually in the coming months. I just noticed it on Saturday, April 27th.

Let’s take a look at the four new options.

1. You can now “celebrate” a LinkedIn post.

If someone posts something that you are happy about and would love to cheer about it, then you can choose this option and “celebrate” it.

2. You can now “love” a LinkedIn post.

If someone posts something that you really love or that touches you, then you can choose this option and let them know that you “love” it.

3. You can mark a LinkedIn post “Insightful.”

If someone posts something that you think is an interesting idea or a great point, then you can choose this option and tell them you think their post is “insightful.”

4. You can mark a LinkedIn post “Curious.”

If someone posts something that really makes you think or you think it is thought-provoking, then you can choose this option and tell people you that it’s made you “curious.”

One Reaction That They Didn’t Add

I noticed that they didn’t add a way to react to a post with anger.

I think that’s really wise. There is enough anger and arguments on social media these days.

I think LinkedIn is very wise to not include a way to show people that you’re mad.

In their post announcing the new reactions that they added,  they reveal how intentional they have been in choosing what reactions to include…

“We took a thoughtful approach to designing these reactions, centered around understanding which ones would be most valuable to the types of conversations members have on LinkedIn. This process included looking at what people are already talking about to better understand what feedback they wanted to express and receive — for example, we analyzed the top 1-2 word comments being used and what types of posts people are sharing most. We also conducted global research with LinkedIn members to get feedback on the specific reactions to ensure they were universally understood and helpful.”

What Do You Think About the New “Reactions”?

I really like the new options that I now have when I want to respond to a LinkedIn post. (I paused writing this post a second ago and “celebrated” someone’s post.)

But I’d love to hear what you all think about them.
