BBH Feature: Businesses Must Evolve So Facebook Fans Don’t Tune Out

Facebook’s New, Updated Controls

Facebook recently announced newly updated controls to facilitate user customization of news feed preferences.

Facebook fans are now able to prioritize news feed information and give preference to the posts appearing first in their news feed.

The update is also poised to make it easier for Facebook members to unfollow fellow users including business pages.

The changes seem to be disastrous news for businesses yet there is no reason to panic. Business owners who rely on Facebook to recruit and keep customers will still be able to retain their followers with a little effort.

Facebook’s Updated News Feed Preferences

Facebook’s updated news feed preferences will likely make it more challenging for companies to present their messages to customers; however, these changes will ultimately result in an improved user experience.

Users who take advantage of the new tools will now see more of the posts from their closest friends and favorite pages and fewer posts from those they don’t care to see as often.

However, this change does not mean Facebook fans will automatically neglect all business activity on the popular social media platform.

Businesses must use their news feeds to add value to customers’ lives.

Facebook content should be more user-oriented in an effort to shift the spotlight onto those who actually enjoy products and services.

The prioritization of Facebook fans needs can be achieved in a number of ways. Businesses with creative approaches will retain their followers and continue to add more as time progresses.

For example, holding a contest or a giveaway will improve follower retention. Incorporate comedy, motivational material and entertaining content, including the use of native Facebook videos.

Facebook’s Goal

The goal is to generate an emotional response and meaningful engagement.

While businesses may be tempted to use Facebook to constantly promote the merits of products and services, social media users often prefer to view content geared toward them.

Highlighting new offerings is important, and yet if a business fails to provide helpful information to improve Facebook fans’ lives, updates will likely be ignored.

What You Should Share on Facebook

Social media managers must offer diverse information to potential customers in an effort to show the company cares about more than merely selling as many products as possible.

Companies should offer a constant stream of intriguing editorials, breaking news updates and helpful tips and tricks.
